Edinburgh, Scotland's Capital, has a resident population of c.450,000 and a catchment of c.780,000. As a Capital it is home to the Scottish Parliament and has a strong economy based principally on financial services, government agencies and tourism, attracting some 4.8 million visitors annually.

Edinburgh is ranked as the UK's second largest financial centre after London and the 6th largest in Europe. Outwith the provision of financial and government services, Edinburgh has a diverse economy which includes biotechnology, education, construction, brewing and research, all of which benefit from a young educated workforce.
